This is an E27 studio lamp holder head, the fitting that holds and powers a single photography bulb on a stand.
A standard screw-in E27 bulb (also fits E26) threads straight into the socket, and the head clamps onto any 5/8 inch light-stand stud or umbrella bracket with a locking knob.
It runs on standard AC mains through a cable of roughly 1.8 metres, and an inline rocker switch on that cable turns the bulb on and off at the head, so you do not have to reach the wall socket between shots.
Built into the head is a 7-8mm umbrella slot that takes a standard shoot-through or bounce umbrella, letting a single bulb fire through a soft white diffuser or bounce off a reflective umbrella for softer, more even light.
The head swivels and tilts and tightens with a side knob, so you can angle the bulb and umbrella toward your subject and lock the position. It is made of hardened plastic and is meant for dry indoor studio use.
It is not a light stand and it is not the bulb itself.
It is the socket-and-bracket that joins the two, so you pair it with an E27 bulb and a stand, both of which we also rent, to build a low-cost continuous-lighting head.
