The TOA EM-3 is a gooseneck podium microphone built for clear, natural speech at lecterns and conference tables.
It uses a cardioid electret condenser capsule on a flexible gooseneck, so a presenter can bend the neck once to aim the head at their mouth and then speak hands-free.
The cardioid pattern picks up the voice directly in front of the capsule and rejects sound arriving from the sides and rear, which keeps room noise and speaker bleed out of the mix and helps hold back feedback in a live hall.
Its frequency response of 50 Hz to 16 kHz is tuned for the human voice, giving warmth on the low end and crisp intelligibility on consonants without the extended sparkle a music microphone would add.
On the electrical side it delivers a rated sensitivity of -41 dB into a 600 ohm balanced load and terminates in a standard 3-pin XLR output, so it plugs straight into any mixer, powered speaker or PA system that accepts a balanced microphone input.
Because the capsule is an electret condenser, it needs power to work: feed it either 48V phantom power from the mixer or the internal AA batteries in the base.
Set the mic on the podium, run one XLR cable to the desk, choose a power source, and it is ready for the speaker.
