It carries one channel of balanced mic or line-level audio between two pieces of XLR gear, running from a source to an input in one direction: the female end takes the output of a source such as a microphone, and the male end plugs into an input such as a mixer channel.
It is balanced because it uses three conductors, hot, cold and ground.
The audio travels on the hot and cold cores as a pair, and any hum or interference picked up along the run lands on both equally, so the receiving input cancels that common-mode noise and keeps only the wanted signal.
That is why a balanced XLR run stays clean over 15 metres, even alongside lighting rigs, dimmers and power cables where an unbalanced lead would buzz.
The cable is shielded for a further barrier against pickup, and the connectors are gold-plated for a low-resistance, corrosion-resistant contact.
The female shell latches onto its plug so it will not fall out mid-performance, and it passes 48V phantom power up to a condenser microphone or active DI box, with no external power of its own.
The 15-metre length reaches from a stage position back to a side-stage or front-of-house mixer without a tangle of joins.
Choose it for a single balanced analog line between XLR gear; it is not for DMX lighting, digital audio, or passive speakers.
