Do I need two units to use this, or is it a single transmitter-receiver?

This is a single unit that can switch between transmitter or receiver mode. You need at least two units to create a wireless DMX link - one at your console and one at your fixture. We can confirm how many units are included in the rental when you WhatsApp +94 777 186 500 for a quote.

Will this work with my 3-pin DMX moving heads and PAR cans?

Yes, it has standard 3-pin XLR male and female DMX sockets, so it connects directly to most stage fixtures without adapters. Just set matching ID groups on each unit and it pairs automatically. Bring your own DMX cables for the short runs from the unit to your fixtures.

How far can I place the receiver from the transmitter at an outdoor event?

Expect roughly 400 meters in clear line-of-sight conditions. Walls, rain, and metal stages all reduce range, so plan to keep units as unobstructed as possible. During monsoon season or CEB power cuts, test your link before the event starts.

What power source does this need - can it run on battery?

It requires a DC 9-12V adapter, which we include with the rental. It does not run on battery, so position it near a power outlet or bring your own 9-12V battery pack if you need mobility. We do not guarantee adapter condition between rentals, so inspect it on pickup.

ALIEN DMX512 Wireless Controller Receiver Transmitter - Pro Lighting for rent

The ALIEN DMX512 Wireless Controller is a 2.4GHz transceiver that sends and receives standard DMX512 lighting data without cables.

Each unit switches between transmitter or receiver mode, features a 2 x 8-bit LCD display, and connects via standard 3-pin XLR sockets.

It hops across 126 frequency channels for reliable RF performance, with a line-of-sight range of about 400 metres and 16 ID groups to run multiple wireless universes together.

This unit suits Sri Lankan event setups where cable runs are awkward or unsafe: hotel ballroom weddings with truss-mounted moving heads, outdoor garden parties and pirith ceremonies, school concerts and prize-giving stages, DJ and bar lighting rigs, repositionable photo and video shoots, and conference or product-launch stages with the desk far from fixtures.
