The Chauvet DJ Obey 40 is a compact universal DMX-512 lighting controller that lets one operator run a full rig of DMX fixtures from a single desk.
It controls up to 12 fixtures of up to 16 channels each, giving 192 DMX channels on one universe, which is enough headroom for a typical wedding, party or small stage rig of moving heads, LED par cans, scanners, dimmers and effect units.
You build your looks across 30 banks of 8 scenes, which is 240 scenes in all, then sequence them into 6 chases for full-show playback without a laptop.
Playback is flexible. A built-in microphone gives sound-active beat activation, and there is also tap-sync and auto-run on an internal speed control, so scenes and chases can follow the music hands-free.
Dedicated fog machine and strobe buttons, MIDI input for triggering from an external controller, and a DMX polarity selector round it out, with output over a single 3-pin XLR line.
One important point: the Obey 40 is a controller only. On its own it does nothing.
It needs DMX fixtures such as moving heads, LED par cans or effect lights, plus DMX cables to connect them, before it can send any signal.
We rent those fixtures and cables separately, so you can put together a complete rig in one order.
