A passive converter that takes a 3.5mm (mini-jack) source such as a phone, laptop, tablet or media player and lets it plug into a 3-pin XLR line input on a mixer or PA. No power, no setup, just a working connection.
This is a short, 0.5 metre passive adapter with a 3.5mm TRS male plug on one end and a 3-pin XLR male plug on the other.
Its only job is to re-terminate a consumer 3.5mm output as an XLR plug, so a device that ends in a headphone-style jack can physically reach the XLR-only input on a mixer, powered speaker or PA.
You plug the 3.5mm end into the source and the XLR end into the mixer channel, and the connection is made.
It is fully passive: no power supply, no battery, no gain stage and no phantom power, so it neither amplifies nor colours the signal, it simply changes the connector.
Because the single 3-pin XLR carries one channel while the 3.5mm TRS plug is stereo, the left and right of a stereo source are summed to a single mono feed.
Signal flows one way only, from the 3.5mm source into the XLR mixer or PA input, not back the other way.
The cable is shielded with gold-plated contacts for a clean, reliable join, and it suits a short run where the source sits beside the console.
For long or noisy unbalanced runs, or where ground-loop hum is a risk, choose a powered DI box instead.
