The BY-PVM1000L is a super-cardioid condenser shotgun microphone built around a long interference tube.
That long barrel tightens the pickup so the mic hears mostly what is directly in front of it and rejects off-axis sound, which is exactly what you want for dialogue in a busy room or on location.
It captures a clean, natural voice across a 30 to 20,000 Hz range with a low noise floor, and a switchable low-cut (high-pass) filter trims wind rumble and air-conditioner hum.
It ships with a shock mount to isolate handling and camera vibration and a foam windscreen for outdoor work.
This is a balanced 3-pin XLR microphone, so it needs a recorder, camera or mixer that can take an XLR input, and it needs power.
You can run it two ways: from 48V phantom power supplied by a field mixer, recorder or professional camera, or from a single AA battery when your camera has no phantom power.
You will need an XLR cable into your recorder or interface. On a DSLR without XLR inputs, use the AA battery with the supplied XLR-to-3.5mm cable, or route it through a field recorder we can rent alongside it.
It is a directional on-camera or boom mic, not a handheld vocal mic.
