A Lightning splitter that turns the single Lightning port on an iPhone or iPad into two: one for audio, one for charging, so you never have to choose between headphones and power.
This is a Lightning male to dual Lightning female splitter for Apple devices. It plugs into the Lightning port on an iPhone or iPad and gives you two Lightning sockets in its place.
One socket carries audio out and the other takes a charging cable, so you can listen through Lightning headphones, or feed audio to a mixer or recorder, while the device charges at the same time.
It passes through the device audio at up to 24-bit / 48kHz and forwards in-line microphone and remote controls (play, pause, skip, volume) from a compatible Lightning headset, so headset buttons behave exactly as they do plugged straight into the phone.
The charging leg is pass-through at standard speed, up to about 2.1A / 20W, from any USB power source with a normal Lightning cable. That is enough to top up while the phone is in use, though it is not a fast PD charger.
This type of splitter is typically MFi-certified for iPhone and iPad on iOS 10.3 or later.
It works only with Lightning devices, not USB-C iPhones or iPads, and it is a simple passive accessory with no app, driver, pairing or battery of its own.
Plug it in, connect your headphones to one port and the charging cable to the other, and it works.
