A JBL 12-inch two-way passive top loudspeaker for a PA system, used as the main full-range top for speeches, live music and DJ playback.
It is a passive cabinet, so it runs from a separate power amplifier, and it drops straight into a stage or event rig.
This is a JBL 12-inch two-way passive PA top speaker.
It pairs a 12-inch low-frequency woofer with a compression-driver horn for the highs, housed in a trapezoidal cabinet with a steel grille and a reinforced wooden enclosure.
It is the standard workhorse top for small-to-mid stages, delivering clear vocals, balanced music and enough headroom to fill a hall or an outdoor function area.
A single top works as a mono speaker for speeches, or you can run a stereo pair with a subwoofer for music and dance floors.
Being passive is the key thing to understand before you rent. Passive means the amplifier is not built into the speaker, so this cabinet will not make sound on its own.
It must be driven by a separate power amplifier matched to its impedance and power rating, connected with a speaker cable through the rear Speakon or 1/4-inch jack inputs.
That keeps it easy to swap into an existing amp rack and mixing console, which is why sound crews like it, but it does mean you need an amp and a speaker cable.
If you do not have them, we rent a matching power amplifier and cable to go with it, so tell us your event and we will set up the full chain.
A 35mm pole-mount socket lets it sit on a tripod stand or on top of a subwoofer, and the angled cabinet also lies on its side as a floor wedge monitor.
