A small passive converter that sends video from a Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt laptop to a legacy VGA projector or monitor in Full HD 1080p.
It plugs straight in with no drivers and no power, so a modern laptop works on a room's old VGA display.
A UGREEN adapter with a Mini DisplayPort male plug on one end and a VGA female socket on the other.
It fits a laptop with a Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt 1 / 2 output, such as an older MacBook or Microsoft Surface, and lets it drive a display that only has a VGA input.
Inside, it takes the digital video from the Mini-DisplayPort port and converts it to an analog VGA signal the older screen can read, at up to Full HD 1080p at 60Hz.
That is the ceiling of VGA itself, so the picture will not go higher than the display supports.
It is fully passive and plug-and-play: it draws its power from the laptop, with no drivers to install and no adapter to carry.
The link runs one way only, from the Mini-DisplayPort source out to the VGA display, so it sends a laptop's screen to a projector but cannot pull a VGA source back into a laptop.
It carries video only, because the VGA standard has no audio channel, so run a separate 3.5mm audio lead from your laptop to the speakers or mixer when you need sound.
Choose it when you have a modern Mini-DP or Thunderbolt laptop and the projector or monitor on the day only offers a VGA socket.
