A 30-metre HDMI 2.1 active optical cable that carries 8K and 4K video with sound over a fibre core, so the picture reaches a far-off projector or screen without fading. It runs where a normal copper HDMI cannot.
This is a 30 metre HDMI 2.1 active optical cable (AOC), with full-size HDMI Type-A male plugs on both ends.
Unlike an ordinary copper HDMI lead, it carries the picture and sound over a thin glass fibre core, so it can reach a display 30 metres away without the signal fading or dropping out.
It supports up to 48 Gbps of bandwidth, 8K video at 60Hz and 4K at 120Hz, with HDR, so it is built for the longest runs at the highest resolutions.
Picture and sound travel on the single cable, so there is no separate audio lead to route.
Because it is an active optical cable, it is directional and draws a little power from the HDMI source.
One end is marked for the source (the laptop, player or media server) and the other for the display (the projector, TV or LED wall), and it must be plugged in that way round for the electronics to lock onto the signal.
That fibre core is what lets it run so far, where a normal copper HDMI would lose the picture long before 30 metres.
In return it is a single fixed length, it is more sensitive to sharp bends than copper, and it is not meant to be daisy-chained.
This makes it the right cable when the source and screen are at opposite ends of a hall, stage or auditorium.
