Apple Mac Mini (Late 2012, Core i7, 16GB)

A compact Mac Mini desktop for hire, ready for signage, media and office work

The Apple Mac Mini (Late 2012, Core i7, 16GB) is a small, quiet desktop computer you can rent for signage, media playback, a temporary edit or office workstation, an event kiosk, or a dev and test box.

It has a quad-core Intel Core i7 with 16GB of RAM, plus HDMI and Thunderbolt outputs to drive your own screen.

This is an Apple Mac Mini from Late 2012, a compact aluminium desktop computer built around a quad-core Intel Core i7 (Ivy Bridge) with Turbo Boost, paired with 16GB of DDR3 1600MHz RAM and Intel HD Graphics 4000.

It is the computer unit only, so you connect your own keyboard, mouse and display, or rent them alongside it.

Connectivity is broad for such a small box: a Thunderbolt port, a full-size HDMI output, four USB 3.0 ports, FireWire 800 and Gigabit Ethernet, plus 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0.

It supports two external monitors at up to 2560 x 1600 each, and runs from standard AC mains with no battery.

Because it uses a full-size HDMI output and a Thunderbolt port, it drives projectors, TVs and monitors directly, which makes it handy for signage, slideshows and event screens as well as everyday desk work.

The quad-core i7 and 16GB of RAM give it comfortable headroom for office suites, browsing, light photo and video editing, coding and running test builds.

It is honest about its age though: this is a 2012 machine, so its macOS support tops out at an older release (macOS Catalina) and it is not built for heavy modern GPU work such as current 4K editing or new games.

For those workloads, a newer workstation is the better rental. For signage, media, office and development duties, this Mac Mini is a tidy, dependable choice that slips neatly behind a screen or onto any desk.
