The Sony HXR-NX200 is a compact professional NXCAM handheld camcorder built around a 1.0-inch back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor.
That larger-than-usual sensor gives cleaner low-light footage and a shallower depth of field than a typical camcorder, so faces and subjects separate nicely from the background.
It records true 4K UHD at 3840 x 2160 in the XAVC S codec at up to 100Mbps, and Full HD up to 50p, all onto standard SD cards through dual card slots that support relay recording for long ceremonies or backup recording for peace of mind.
It is a one-piece, self-contained camera, which is why videographers reach for it instead of building up a mirrorless body with a separate rig and cage.
The optics are a fixed Sony G Lens with a 12x optical zoom, equivalent to 29-348mm, and a bright f/2.8 to f/11 aperture range, so you can frame a wide establishing shot or reach across a hall without ever changing a lens.
Audio is handled by two 3-pin XLR inputs with selectable line, mic and +48V phantom power, letting you plug in shotgun mics, wireless lavalier receivers or a mixer feed straight into the camera with proper broadcast-grade levels.
Built-in 4-position ND filters (Clear, 1/4, 1/16, 1/64) tame bright outdoor light, and a 3.5-inch touch LCD plus a viewfinder help you frame and pull focus.
The whole run-and-gun body weighs around 1.8 kg and powers from an NP-F570 battery.
